COVID-19 Information & Services
What is COVID-19?
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered (novel) coronavirus. Most who are infected with the COVID-19 virus experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and are able to recover without special medical treatment. The older population and those with underlying medical problems like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop a serious illness that may require hospitalization.
To best prevent and slow down the virus transmission, stay current with the latest information about the COVID-19 virus, the disease it causes, and how it spreads. You can protect yourself and others from infection by wearing a facial mask, such as an N-95, a KN-95, or a surgical mask. Washing your hands regularly, using an alcohol-based sanitizer throughout the day, and avoiding touching your face are all practices that will help curb the spread.
The COVID-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes, so it’s important to also practice good respiratory etiquette at all times. Coughing into a flexed elbow or wearing a face covering over your nose and mouth is key.
